The National Innovation and Startup Policy

In November 2016, All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE) released a Startup Policy document for AICTE approved institutions, to address the need of inculcation of innovation and entrepreneurial culture in higher education institutions (HEIs). The policy primarily focused on guiding the AICTE approved institutions in implementing the ‘Startup Action Plan’ of the Government of India. Subsequent to release of the Startup policy by AICTE and further interaction & feedback received from education institutions, a fifteen member committee constituted by the Ministry of Human Resource Development formulated the National Innovation and Startup Policy 2019 for students and faculties of HEIs. The policy gives detailed guidelines for various aspects related to innovation, Start-up and entrepreneurship management essential for nurturing the innovation and Start-up culture in HEIs, covering important aspects like Intellectual Property ownership, revenue sharing mechanisms, norms for technology transfer and commercialization, equity sharing, etc. XITE joined the NISP campaign in November, 2020 with an aim to participate in the promotion of a robust entrepreneurial ecosystem in the College and the neighbourhood.

XITE envisions promoting student driven innovations & start-ups by engaging students and faculty in innovation and start-up activities and thereby creating an entrepreneurial ecosystem in the College.

XITE’s Mission towards NISP implementation

XITE commits to creating an environment of Entrepreneurship in the College by providing a platform for entrepreneurial opportunities, endorsing innovative ideas, and nurturing entrepreneurial skill-sets among students and faculty for creation of employment and wealth. The College will build strong partnerships with ecosystem enablers and other stakeholders at regional and national level. The entrepreneurial ecosystem in XITE will play a key role in identifying, mentoring, and nurturing innovative and entrepreneurial potential of students, faculty and staff and transforming them into start-up entrepreneurs by providing avenues of funding, investment opportunities and networking support to make the innovation and venture successful.

XITE Institution’s Innovation Council (XITE – IIC)

About

Ministry of Education (MoE), Govt. of India has established ‘MoE’s Innovation Cell (MIC)’ to systematically foster the culture of Innovation amongst all Higher Education Institutions (HEIs). The primary mandate of MIC is to encourage, inspire and nurture young students by supporting them to work with new ideas and transform them into prototypes while they are informative years. MIC has envisioned encouraging creation of ‘Institution’s Innovation Council (IICs)’ across selected HEIs. A network of these IICs will be established to promote innovation in the Institution through multitudinous modes leading to an innovation promotion eco-system in the campuses.

Major focus of IIC

1. To create a vibrant local innovation ecosystem.
2. To create Start-up supporting Mechanism in HEIs. 
3. To Prepare institute for Atal Ranking of Institutions on Innovation Achievements Framework. 
4. To Establish Function Ecosystem for Scouting Ideas and Pre-incubation of Ideas. 
5. To Develop better Cognitive Ability for Students.

Functions of IICs

1. To conduct various innovation and entrepreneurship-related activities prescribed by Central MIC in time bound fashion.
2. Identify and reward innovations and share success stories.
3. Organize periodic workshops/ seminars/ interactions with entrepreneurs, investors, professionals and create a mentor pool for student innovators.
4. Network with peers and national entrepreneurship development organizations.
5. Create an Institution’s Innovation portal to highlight innovative projects carried out by institution’s faculty and students.
6. Organize Hackathons, idea competition, mini-challenges etc. with the involvement of industries.
