                                                              Message

          Greeting to one and all

Education has gone through a sea of changes in the recent years, due to communication,
technology and the changes that have occurred in human society. There are tendencies to move
fast and take short cuts resulting in lack of depth. The excessive influence of the social media and
other media has created certain restlessness among youth, resulting in disorientation, distractions
and inability to cope with the pressures of life, leading to depression, suicides, etc. Furthermore, the
weakening of interpersonal relationships through overemphasis of materialism and vulnerable
societal structures have led to a meaninglessness in life.
The education, which distances itself from the life-realities and does not integrate these realities
into its educational process, loses its edge and relevance. Therefore, following the ideals and
principles of Jesuit education, we need to focus on holistic education in forming young men and
women into persons of competency, conscience, compassions and commitment. Education has to
re-emphasize both, the intellectual and aective aspects of a person's growth. It is possible to
achieve our goal, by bringing awareness through inputs and exposures, through academic and co-
curricular activities. I wish Xavier Chims and its readers all the very best and may they be useful and
productive in every endeavour they undertake.

The education we impart needs to equip young people with resilience and confidence, so that they
are able to make the right decisions and move ahead in life with courage and optimism.
Furthermore, they must understand their role as good leaders and be torchbearers of peace and
harmony; if transformation of the world and human communities should become a reality. The
formation of young men and women must be enshrouded with hope that would help them grow in
          positive attitudes.
I am confident that Xavier College is trying its best to create a conducive environment to give
opportunities for the self- transformation of students, who in turn will become instruments of
transformation. May the good Lord fill you with courage and determination to overcome hurdles and
fill you with a vision to move on inspiring paths!
