From Wilderness to Love and Life

At the very outset, let me begin by saying, that I am blessed with a team of wonderful people. As a
result, my sincere thanks goes out to the members of the faculty, students and co-workers. Though
we hail from dierent family backgrounds and environments, we let go our dierences and simply
do our best to make the Institution our home away from home. It is a source of joy to see each one
contributing according to ones giftedness and talents.
Having being blessed, it is but natural to take such contributions for granted and ignore them. Of
course, we do all these things to aspire for a higher standard of life, but experience some kind of
'wilderness' within oneself. This experience leads us face to face with the theme 'Impact of Urban
Wilderness' within ourselves. Prof. Leopold, a writer, forester and scientist at the University of
Wisconsin says that we need to expand our idea of community to include not just people, but the
natural world too. According to him, “there are two spiritual dangers in not owning a farm. One is the
danger of supposing that breakfast comes from the grocery, and the other that heat comes from the
          furnace.”
People move from villages to big cities to embrace development, growth and comfort, but in reality,
many experience 'wilderness' within themselves in big cities. In order to combat the 'wilderness'
from within, one needs to dialogue and share what one has with the other who is in need of , shall I
say a friend, a philosopher and guide. Is it worth having a higher standard of living at the expense of
our less fortunate brothers and sisters, the environment and ecology?

At XITE, it is our endeavour to remove this experience of 'wilderness' from within and to have a
holistic view of growth, the development of individuals and society at large.

Come let us join hands and also our hearts and minds to transform the wilderness that we create
and encounter in society. Let us propel our College into an institution bubbling with love, life,
generosity and laughter and thus embrace creation in its glory.
