              Innovative India
                                                                                             BBA 1st Year

‘Innovation' means the action or process of innovating, or executing new ideas to create value. And 'wings to
fly' means to inspire or motivate someone to achieve new heights.
So let's combine both of them to find out an answer to a simple question. What is the motivation behind
innovation? If one thinks carefully the answer which you would get is 'necessity'. When we think of an
invention with think about huge amount of capital invested, scientific labs, highly educated scientist. But not
to forget that 'necessity is the mother of invention'.
Necessity arises from difficult situations, it is the state or fact of being required, and what better place to find
difficult situations then the rural areas. Perhaps this is the reason why rural areas in the past few years have
witnessed some significant inventions, on which I would like to throw some light.
Starting from Southern India, Remya Jose, a young teenager from Kerala invented the 'washing cum
exercise machine' as she could not afford a real washing machine. She went ahead and created a washing
machine that resembles exercising cycle. 3-4 minutes of paddling completely washes the clothes and even
dries it up to 80%. This machine is also effective in saving time and electricity.
Now, when we talk about inventions from rural area 'Abdul Rahim Khan' is the name we cannot forget one of
Khan's inventions is the 'cotton de-seeding machine'. Khan's machine which is mostly made of wood has an
investment of only 220 rupees; it saves as much as 10 times the amount. Making it an incredibly effective
solution to the poorest farmers out there.
Talking about farmers, Jitendra, born to marginal farmers comes from a remote village in Madhya Pradesh.
A mechanical engineer by trade, he built 'Shubham'. 'Shubham' means auspicious or lucky. Shubham is a low
cost water filter which can filter 500 litres of water per day using no electricity, as it works on the 'principle of
          gravity'.
While Shubham purifies water 'Mitti cool eco-friendly refrigerator' keeps water and food cool during the
summer season. 'Mansukhbhai Prajapati', potter from a small village of Rajkot, Gujarat, soon shot to fame
with his exemplary innovation of an eco-friendly refrigerator. This revolutionary refrigerator is made of clay
and naturally cools food items. 'Mitti cool' is available across major online E-Commerce sites as well.
As I have mentioned before, and as the saying goes 'necessity is the mother of invention'; many villagers not
only overcame these difficulties but also invented products which have changed thousands of lives. 'The solar
mosquito destroyer', 'the water walking shoes', 'the Cotton harvester', 'the milking machine', 'the well pulley
with break', 'the water tyres', 'the multipurpose herb processor', are all inventions from rural areas and the list
does not stop here, there are many more and still counting. In every few days there is a new invention done by
these rural people which we can read in the newspapers.

After completing my research and coming across so many inventions from the rural areas, I can proudly say
that, yes, the brighter side of rural India is that it is a 'hot bed for several innovations'.
