Survival has been the subject of stories for thousands of years. Men and women are forced to pit
their strength , skill and brains, against the forces of nature , evil, and each other. Wherever life
exists, survival will be the need of the hour. Every creature plays an important part in the
ecosystem , hence the need to preserve biodiversity.

Biodiversity is the key to the survival of humankind. Much depends on it : clean water, food , clean
air and much more, besides all these. Infinite diversity can be found on dierent levels , be it in
the microbal , plants or animal kingdom. In case of animals , we even have to deal with the
additional issue of complex behavior . Biodiversity is the amount of variety of life on earth.... a
healthy ecosystems and rich biodiversity increases the ecosystem's productivity .Each species
in an ecosystem has a specific niche , a role to play , supporting a large number of plant species
and therefore a greater variety of crops . Greater diversity among species ensures natural
sustainability for all life forms. Biodiversity is vital for human survival and livelihood ; we need to
conserve it for the future generations. At the same time , the unacceptable pangs of hunger
and rural poverty in our small planet calls for urgent remedial actions.
Urban biodiversity refers to the variety and variability among living organisms found in a city
and the ecological systems in which they occur . Urban development can have a significant
impact on our natural habitat. With habitat modification having been identified as one of the
most important drivers of biodiversity loss, the urban environment is becoming an
increasingly expanding geographical area that could be used to support wildlife. From the
introduction of green infrastructure , to the engagement and active participation of local
communities and city residents , there are numerous ways in which the urban environment can
be developed to promote the integration of biodiversity . The increasing introduction of green
spaces , green infrastructure, and urban farming initiatives indicates that the issues
surrounding biodiversity loss are slowly being realized, with actions being taken to try to
address them within the urban environment.
Do animals and bugs really matter to us ?
For many people living in towns and cities , wildlife is often something you watch on
television. But the reality is that the air we breathe, the water we drink, the food we eat, all
ultimately rely on biodiversity. Some examples are obvious : without plants there would be no
oxygen and without bees to pollinate , there would be no fruits and nuts.
So we can conclude that urban wilderness ultimately means the inclusion of biodiversity in
urban neighborhoods are a part and parcel of the new urbanization movement.
Biodiversity is the key indicator of the health of an ecosystem. Don't let species go extinct in
this world because we are all linked.
